FAQs

Art With Robots creates high-end 3D printed and hand-finished collectibles, statues, and art objects inspired by pop culture, games, and original designs. Each piece is produced in small batches or made-to-order, with a focus on sculpt quality, surface finish, and presentation.

We also offer custom printing and/or painting of your own digital STL files, sculpture modifications such as reposing or resculpting elements, and from-scratch custom sculpts based on your own ideas or references.

Use the Contact form to chat with us about any custom projects.

What services do you offer?

Browse the Shop and choose the piece and tier that fit you best—DIY kit (raw resin parts), Ready-to-Paint (cleaned, prepped, and airbrush-primed), or fully painted Collector Edition.

Place your order, and production begins shortly after (depending on how many orders are ahead of you in the production queue).

If you have questions before ordering, feel free to reach out using the contact form.

How do I get started?

Every piece is produced, finished, and inspected by hand in our studio—not mass-manufactured. We focus on sculpt fidelity, clean prints, pre-painting prep, thoughtful assembly, and premium paint finishes. You’re buying a collectible made with the care of fine art, not factory merch.

We know that collectors are eager to get their new piece as fast as possible, but we also know that high-quality handmade art takes time. The wait can feel like an infinite black hole sometimes, so to ease it, we generally offer clients an online photo album so you can follow along with your order's production process.

Finally, we are two passionate artists with decades of experience in commercial and fine art. Check our About page to learn more.

What makes you different?

You can reach us anytime via our contact page, email, or on socials. We aim to respond quickly—usually within one business day—but sometimes we get backed up and may take longer.

Feel free to ping us if you haven’t heard back!

How can I contact you?

Made to Order (MTO) items are produced after your order is placed. This allows for higher quality control and multiple tier options, but it also means production time before shipping. Estimated timelines are based on order backlog.

What does “Made to Order” mean?

Production time varies by model size, complexity, quantity, tier, and place in the production queue.

Most orders ship within 3–8 weeks once production starts.

Please note that we have limited production capacity each month, so we may limit our order queue from time to time.

We do our best to work as quickly as possible, but we are a small, family-run shop of two married people (Nate and Mona). 3D printing and painting models are highly technical and highly creative, and both have challenges that may not be visible at the start of the project timeline. All timelines are estimates and may change if issues arise—we will let you know if this happens.

If you need a specific delivery date, let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate, though a rush fee may apply.

Messaging us over and over to ask when your order will be ready will not speed things up :)

How long does production take?

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Generally, worldwide shipping is available and calculated at checkout. Buyer is responsible for any VAT or import fees.

Yes! Custom projects are considered on a limited basis. If you’re interested in a custom scale, finish, or concept, use the Contact form with details and references, and we’ll chat about your idea.

Some custom services we offer:

  • Print/paint your own file

  • Modify your own file - change, swap, add, or resculpt elements

  • Combine multiple models into a single diorama

  • From-scratch custom model sculpture

You can also customize some of our standard Shop Catalog models. See the Custom Service page for more info.

Can I request a custom piece?

Because items are made to order, cancellations are only possible before production begins—while your order is still in the production queue.

Once printing or finishing has started, orders generally cannot be modified without additional fees.

Why? A lot of resources go into the front end of a project, from analysis with our 3D-printing engineer to file modifications (and fees paid to the engineer), model support and slicing, to resin and paint tests.

If a change is needed on our end for custom or non-catalog orders, we may identify engineering or other model issues that need to be addressed to ensure successful printing and painting. Some changes to the file may be needed, and we will let you know whether they would be visible.

Can I cancel or change my order?

What happens to orders that are abandoned or not fully paid for?

Catalog orders from the Shop are paid in full at the time of purchase. Payment options are available, including pay-over-time options.

Most custom orders have payment terms of a 50% deposit at the start to secure your place in the queue, with the remaining 50% due at project completion, before shipping.

Once production begins, the 50% deposit is non-refundable.

It’s rare, but abandonment has happened, so we’ve put this policy in place:

If you do not pay your invoice within the agreed time frame listed on the invoice, we will consider your project abandoned and may sell your model to another buyer to recoup our costs. We will give you a warning in advance, providing a time-limited opportunity to pay your invoice and receive your order.

If your situation changes and you need to pause your order, let us know, and we will do our best to make reasonable accommodations.

In rare cases, we may seek legal restitution for unpaid bills.

What do you do with my custom files after the project is completed?

We may keep an archival copy of your files in case we need to reprint something, or you decide to order another copy of the model. We often make engineering edits to the models and custom supports, and this archive prevents us from having to redo work.

We will not distribute or sell your files without your permission.

We may make one or more personal artist-proof prints for testing, quality assurance, paint reference, or portfolio reasons.

How should I display my collectible?

Display your piece indoors, on a stable, level surface away from direct sunlight. Prolonged UV exposure can cause subtle color fading over time, especially on hand-painted finishes.

How do I clean my statue?

Use a soft, dry brush or microfiber cloth to remove dust. For detailed areas, compressed air or a clean makeup brush works well. Avoid water, solvents, or cleaning chemicals, as they can damage paint and resin.

Yes—these are detailed resin collectibles, not toys. Thin parts, weapons, hair strands, or accessories should be handled with care. Always lift the piece from its base rather than extended elements.

“Tough” engineering-grade or other specialty resins are available, but they come at an added cost compared to our standard ABS-like resin.

Are these pieces fragile?

Can I display it outdoors?

No. These pieces are intended for indoor display only. Outdoor exposure to heat, moisture, and UV light can cause warping, discoloration, or surface degradation.

If your order arrives damaged, contact us within 48 hours with photos of the packaging and the damaged item. We’ll work with you to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

We will assess the damage and decide on a remedy.

If it’s a simple repair, such as a small part breaking off, we may guide you through gluing it back on, step by step, via video chat.

This is usually faster and cheaper than shipping the model back to us for repair or filing an insurance claim.

If the product is severely damaged due to the shipper's mishandling, we can file an insurance claim and either replace the item or refund your purchase.

What should I do if a piece arrives damaged?

Will resin warp over time?

Extreme heat (such as near radiators, fireplaces, or in hot cars) can cause warping. Room-temperature, humidity-controlled indoor environments are ideal.

Some Shop catalog models show multiple part configuration options. Do I get all of them?

DIY orders will get all options by default.

— Why? Printing some extra parts only negligibly increases our resin and time costs, so we include all options provided by the sculptor in a single resin color and type.

For any Tier we paint (Ready-to-Paint or Collectors Edition), you pick a single configuration for the standard price, with a multi-config option available for an added fee.

— Why? Painting and finishing extra parts, especially portraits (faces), significantly adds to our time, and not all models offer this, so we need to charge for the extra production time.

Standard pricing includes a single-color resin for all parts (typically ABS-Like HD Gray).

Translucent parts increase production time, so they are available for an added fee, depending on the model.

We can discuss options via the Contact form or email and provide an invoice for the upgrades either before or after a standard Shop purchase.
